So it’s time to break out the cameras, rig up the latest sails and boards and head to the most famous windsurfing photography location on the planet.

Yep….our own backyard. Camp One.

Over the next few weeks you will see some of the best sailors in the world at work and at play as they test out the hot new gear that you will be buying later this year. While they test, the cameras will be rolling to capture those beautiful shots that adorn the sales catalogs and videos of the leading windsurf manufacturers.

You’ve probably already seen some great helicopter action on our Kanaha cam last week as the Moreno Twins played it up for the photographers. While up at Camp One we’ve been watching the team riders from Starboard pull off some great moves just inches below the whirling chopper blades. Heart in your mouth stuff to be sure!

Just yesterday top dog Antoine Albeau showed up and told us he will be here testing for the next 2-3 weeks. It’s super cool stuff just watching the hard work and dedication top sailors like Antoine put into refining their gear and technique.

Coming this week we can look forward to both Neil Pryde and JP teams putting on a show just for you lucky mauiwindcam users.

So tell all your sailing buddies and let’s hear from you if you see any of your favorite sailors strutting their stuff. Just add your comments to the blog.

We will see if we can get you any news from the guys and girls as well as any industry insider stuff that we might overhear. Stay tuned as usual!

We know you often check our site and particularly love not only our windsurfing images, but also our dog, Sevin.

This message is for you.

We all have seen the horrifying images and videos of the Tsunami as it hit Northeastern Japan, we watched with our hearts in our mouths as the devastation unfolded on our televisions. We hope that you and your families are safe after the terrible earthquake and Tsunami.

The Mauiwindcam crew and supporters send their deepest condolences to all those affected by this disaster and sincerely hope that Japan and all its’ citizens recover as soon as possible from this catastrophe. We were lucky, on the North Shore of Maui, we were evacuated and returned home to find only minor damage from the swell.
Our concern immediately went to those less fortunate in Japan.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you… we are sending wishes of strength and Aloha to you all.

We see it every Sunday morning as it steams into Kahului harbour. Then again on Monday evening as it departs for it’s next island stop. Looking like a floating city against the west Maui mountain backdrop. Dwarfing the towns of Waihee and Waiehu.

It is the Pride of America owned and operated by Norwegian Cruise Lines and it’s current asignment is to cruise the Hawaiian waters every week. Begining in Honolulu on a Thursday the Pride then sails to Maui for an overnight stop. Next it sails to Hilo on the Big Island and then onto Kona and finally Kauai. Returning to Honolulu at the end of it’s week at sea.

The Pride of America is not one of the largest cruise ships out there but it is never the less an impressive vessel. It boasts the largest conference facilities at sea, equipped with the latest in multi-media technology and located on a dedicated meeting deck spanning more than 9,300 square feet. It has a Passenger Capacity of 2,138 (double occupancy) and carries a Crew of 946.
It’s Gross Register Tonnage is a massive 80,439 with an Overall Length of 921 feet and Maximum Beam of 105 feet. It’s Draft is 26 feet and it cruises at 22 knots powered by Diesel Electric engines.

From the moment you step into the Capitol Atrium, with its soaring Tiffany-glass dome and grand staircase, you’ll know this is a spectacular cruise ship. Cruise America’s paradise in style, with 14 restaurants and nine bars and lounges, excellent family accommodations, spacious suites and lots of balconies – perfect for whale watching, witnessing Kilauea Volcano or taking in the dramatic views of the Napali Coast.

For more information on this vessel and the Hawaiian Island cruise visit Norwegian Cruise Lines

It’s just a few tweaks but we think the changes are significant and hope you are going to like the improved mauiwindcam site.

The first thing you’ll notice is some new or renamed nav bar links. The old “Video” link has been replaced by a “Replays” link. This is much more descriptive of the daily time lapse replays found on the mwc site. We believe that Replays is a unique offering on webcam sites and now hope that more of you will discover the fun it can be to watch a day or a month flash by in a few minutes. The cloud movements alone are worth the time plus the ability to stop the action and save a frame to our Photo Gallery is another reason to visit Replays often. You will also see a new “Replays” button at the top of each cam view. This will take you directly to the previous days replay time lapse.

The “Photos” link is now “Gallery“. With screen shots going back over 9 years it really is a Gallery of life on the beach. Almost a decade of it. For fun click on the “Gallery Hot Shot” panel and enjoy flipping through a random selection of the best of our Photo history.

We have also rearranged the editorial panels on the right of the page to bring you more variety and and a more dynamic home page experience. Click away…it’s fun!

The biggest change comes to the News section. News is now called “Beach Blog” and as such we will be writing to it on a much more regular basis. We won’t promise a daily post but we are going to try to achieve something close. More photos. More life stories from the beach. More videos. More Sevin! It’s all coming to the newly designed and engineered Mauiwindcam Beach Blog. The old Features section is now incorporated into this Blog making it easier to find and enjoy classic and important moments from a decade of mauiwindcam. Moments like the Death of Rope Tree and Sevin’s first windsurfing session. You will also see a random sampling of these moments on the homepage “Classic Moments” panel. We are really looking forward to this new Blog so please let us know what you would like to read about and if you have any beach related stories please send them in through our “Contacts” page.

Finally on the bottom of the pages is a new links menu. Here you can read all “About” mauiwindcam. A “Who’s Who” of the mwc crew. And “Our Story” of mauiwindcam. Plus the usual dry suff like contacts, advertising and copyright info.

So there you have it. Mauiwindcam v3.5. We hope you like it and look forward to hearing from you. Much aloha from the mwc crew……….Ray, Neil, Gregg and Vivienne.

If the rumors and forecasts are true we are in for 2 days of huge waves Monday and Tuesday.
Our Windguru chart is showing wave heights of about 18 feet but it was showing 24 feet the other day.
Historically they are VERY conservative with their ratings.
A 12-15 foot forecast can see 25+ feet on our outer reef at camp One.
We have heard that Kanaha State Park beach will be closed and that evacuation plans are in place for some low lying areas.
Of course this spells fun for our 4 cams and in anticipation of this we will be cleaning lenses and moving them to the most advantageous directions to bring you as much of the action as possible.
We will also be updating our news pages several time per day to keep you informed of all the big wave happenings.
So stay tuned to mauiwindcam.com and our FaceBook page….and if you are brave enough to be a player out there….please take care and have fun!
