The most prolific of these is the Sea Turtle. On any given day you can see dozens of these graceful and gentle reptiles, some of which will come right up to your board or kayak and circle around for several minutes before gliding off.

Recently Ray and Sevin went for a cruise down to Kanaha and while they were gently paddling down wind were able to see and briefly film a couple of large turtles swimming closely by.

The quality isn’t great but you can see them quite clearly as they slowly glide under the awestruck man and dog.

Beach residents, Neil and Sam prove that you can push and pull at the same time and still get somewhere.
This might look easy but be assured it certainly is not. Just getting into the right position to launch is a major accomplishment let alone managing to pull off a jibe!
And while they didn’t quite manage to get back to the same spot on the beach they did thrill us all with their unique water moment.
It probably helps that Sam is a Certified Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Neil teaches Windsurfing for HST.
The perfect couple. The perfect sunset session!

Of course our favorite Water Dog, Sevin had to be a great windsurfer.
And as this short video proves, you can jibe first time out!
At least if your name is Sevin.
As usual, the footage is not sped up….he really is moving out.

We shot this in May but I’ve been a bit busy, sorry ;-)

Here’s a short movie clip showing everything we captured.

The clip covers the 15 minute period at sunset from the moment it crawls out of the ocean and makes its way up the beach.

The timelapse replay shows several small lights moving across the sky and then heading straight towards the camera before vanishing into the night sky.
OK….so it’s not April Fools Day.
In fact it’s Kona wind time and the normal Southerly approach to Kahului Airport is reversed and the air traffic instead lands from the north.
With the installation of our new high sensitivity webcams we have captured this strange occurence for the first time at night.
Spooky huh!
